DORIS RAECKE: After a lifetime in Venezuela, I moved to native Germany. It is not easy to start anew overseas, yet it offers marvelous opportunities! What is everyday monotony to most, is interesting new to me. I sketch everywhere, often on trains. There are tons of new things to record in my sketchbooks. I fear time is not enough to materialize all my ideas. I want to depict the enormous diversity of people around me in Europe. My work has been presented in dozens of art exhibitions and competitions in Venezuela earning a few awards. It has been exhibited in several International Watercolor Biennials in Mexico and other venues, such as the First Andean Watercolor exhibition in Cuenca, Ecuador; Aquarela Internacional Sao Paulo in Brasil 2008, II International Watercolor Biennal 2011 in Spain, a special watercolor exhibition in Russia commemorating St. Peterburg´s tricentennial, as well as in other venues in Spain, Italy, USA, Brasil, Chile, Guatemala and Panama. Member of the International Urban Sketchers organization and its Essen, Bochum, Niederrhein, Dortmund, Herne, Dusseldorf/Cologne and Caracas chapters; Venezuelan Watercolor Association and International Watercolor Society IWS.
